Counselling for Low Mood
When life doesn't feel like it used to
Low mood can make everything feel heavier
You may feel tired, flat, disconnected or as though you're simply going through the motions.
Things that once brought you enjoyment may no longer feel appealing. You might withdraw from people, struggle to motivate yourself or find that your inner voice has become increasingly critical.
Sometimes there is an obvious reason.
Sometimes there isn't.
You may simply know that something isn't right.
You might be feeling...
Low, flat or emotionally numb
Exhausted
Disconnected from other people
Unmotivated
More self-critical than usual
Like you're going through the motions
Isolated or withdrawn
That things won't change
Unsure what you need
How we might work together
There isn't one explanation for low mood, so there doesn't need to be one prescribed way of working.
As a pluralistic counsellor, I'll work with you to understand your experience and explore what might help.
We might explore:
What may be contributing to how you're feeling
Self-critical thoughts
Self-worth and confidence
Isolation and withdrawal
Difficult emotions
Relationships
Experiences from your past
What gives your life meaning
Small steps towards reconnecting with things that matter
Developing greater self-compassion
We can work gently and at a pace that feels manageable.
Finding your way forward
When you're feeling low, the idea of making big changes can feel impossible.
You don't need to.
Sometimes positive change begins with having somewhere safe to talk, feeling understood and taking one small step.
You can begin from exactly where you are.
You might be thinking about counselling because...
It can be surprisingly difficult to ask for help when you're feeling low.
You might tell yourself that other people have it worse, that you should be able to cope, or that you just need to get yourself together.
But you don't have to wait until things become unbearable.
Counselling provides a space where you can be honest about how things really feel — without having to pretend that you're okay.
A first step towards something different
You don't need to know what the answer is.
We can start by talking about what's happening for you and explore together what might help.
